ANGUS NZ NATIONAL SALE

The 2011 Beef Expo Angus sale provided the high price point of the event, when a Ranui W bull was sold for $28,000 to the Ranui stud of Lin Johnston.

The Angus sale grossed $290,600. 

33 2 year bulls sold for an average of $8294, slightly less than the 2010 average of $8,400 with 12 sold to stud and the rest to commercial beef farmers throughout New Zealand. Seven females were sold for an average of $2971.In addition 3 yearlig bulls sold for an average of $5500

Kaharau Geronimo 09-161from the Gisborne stud of Colin Williams and Charles Dowding won the Champion Angus title on the first day of the Expo, and was placed Reserve Champion of Champions on the following day. Geronimo went on to sell to Chris Gibbs of the recently created Awanui Angus stud at Hamilton for $10,000.

Hamish and Angela Williams of the Turihaua Angus Stud, also of Gisborne sold a bull to DS Giddings for $21,000 and one to Blue Mountain stud for $20,000. All three of these bulls coming out of the FMG Bull Evaluation Group.

The highest price bull; Ranui W Infinity 931 was entered in to the Select Sire Group, a section that stipulates the bull being used for mating to 20 or more females, having above average indexes for AngusPure and Ease of Calving, being in the top 30% for the Angus Self Replacing Index and its dam calving as a 2 year old with a calf every year following.

Volume buyers were G&J Crawford from Kamo, who bought 6 bulls for a total of $28,300.

Seven females were sold for an average of $2971, all to current Angus breeders.
